How to Choose Van Carpet Lining: Stretch, GSM and Roll Sizes

Choosing van carpet lining starts with the shape of the surface you want to cover, the finish you prefer and the amount of material you need. Atlas Distributions supplies four carpet lining ranges for campervan, motorhome and vehicle interior projects: Standard 270 GSM, Premium 320 GSM, Luxury 370 GSM and VELTRIM non-stretch 500 GSM.

This guide compares the current roll specifications. Use the product pages to select a colour, check the current price and choose a full roll or a sample.

Compare the four carpet lining ranges

Atlas carpet lining roll sizes and coverage
Range Material weight Stretch Full roll Coverage before waste
Standard — clear bag 270 GSM 4-way stretch 2 m × 40 m 80 m²
Premium — blue bag 320 GSM 4-way stretch 2 m × 40 m 80 m²
Luxury — green bag 370 GSM 4-way stretch 2 m × 40 m 80 m²
VELTRIM 500 GSM Non-stretch 2 m × 30 m 60 m²

What does GSM mean?

GSM means grams per square metre: it describes the weight of the material over a given area. It is not a measurement of thickness. A higher GSM number alone does not tell you how a carpet will stretch, feel or fit around a particular panel. Compare a sample of each range if the finish is important to your project.

Should I choose stretch or non-stretch carpet?

Four-way stretch carpet can be worked around curves and contours, which makes it a useful option when lining shaped vehicle interior panels. Standard, Premium and Luxury are the three four-way stretch options in the Atlas range. They share the same full-roll dimensions, so you can compare their weight, colour and feel without changing the basic roll coverage calculation.

VELTRIM is a non-stretch option. Plan the cutting, joins and edges for the surface you are covering rather than expecting it to stretch around a compound curve. If you are unsure which material suits your panel shape, send a description or photographs to the sales team before ordering a full roll.

How much carpet lining do I need?

Measure each area separately and sketch how the pieces will fit within the roll width. Multiply width by length to estimate the area of each piece, then add the pieces together. Allow additional material for trimming, wrapping edges, joins and fitting waste. The allowance depends on the shape and layout of your project; total vehicle size alone is not enough to calculate a reliable order quantity.

A 2 m × 40 m roll contains 80 m² of material before waste. A 2 m × 30 m VELTRIM roll contains 60 m². These figures describe the roll area, not a guaranteed number of vans that one roll will cover.

Can I order a sample first?

Yes. Each of these carpet lining product pages includes a sample option alongside the full-roll option. Select the colour and size you require before adding the item to your basket. A sample helps you compare the colour, texture and handling of the material; the sample price is separate from the full-roll price.

Colour appearance can vary between screens and lighting conditions. Compare samples in the vehicle alongside your upholstery fabric and flooring before choosing an interior combination.

Which adhesive should I use?

Choose an adhesive suitable for both the carpet and the surface being lined. Check the adhesive manufacturer's instructions for surface preparation, application, temperature and ventilation. Atlas stocks spray and contact adhesives; contact the team if you need help checking a product for your planned application.
